| Customer Reviews: No Raccoons with Shake Away May 3, 2010 Phil See 6 out of 7 found this review helpful
Having had a Koi Pond for 7 years, and having lost two expensive koi to raccoons, I've had plenty of experience with the little buggers. I've tried the Scarecrow automatic motion and heat sensing sprinklers and they basically just warned me the raccoons were at the pond in the wee hours of the morning but didn't send them off running. I'd then go out there and turn the hose on them until they left. Scarecrows are good at keeping herons away however. I've tried putting sponges with white ammonia around the pond because I'd heard they might think it was predator urine. That didn't really work either because the ammonia would evaporate to quickly and the odor with it. We then cut our pine tree branches away from our house so the raccoons couldn't climb up to our roof anymore. That kept them off our roof but they still came around.
My research finally paid off when I came across Shake Away Critter Repellents and in particular, their deer repellent Shake Away 3-Pound Cat Repellent Granules Fox & Coyote Urine #3002003. You see, Coyotes are a fierce predator of raccoons and deer and if a raccoon or deer comes across the sent of coyote urine, especially in more than one area around a pond or garden, they will think that coyotes have marked their territory and that will put some serious fear into them. It made sense to me so I tried it. I'm here to say, this stuff really works and how I measure that is, I no longer have to get up between 2:30 and 4:30 in the morning to wart off raccoons. I no longer have to put 8 ounces of hydrogen peroxide in the pond every 3 days for a week to help heal the claw wounds on our fish's dorsal and tail fins and general body wounds after the raccoons' failed hunting attempts. The raccoons are gone. I haven't seen one for months and the batteries in our two ScareCrows last a lot longer. If you have deer or raccoon problems, this IS the stuff to get. It really works because it's made with real crystallized coyote urine mixed with sand so it stays where you shake it.
So far, so good August 18, 2010 Eric F. (Norwalk, CT United States) This product has so far appeared to have done the job as far as keeping the raccoons from emptying my bird (suet) feeder for the past 3 weeks and counting. The granules also seem to withstand the rain to a fair extent as there are still some visible grains and odor present (but I am replenishing it after a substantial rain). As far as it's deer-repelling abilities, I'm afraid I can't vouch for that since that wasn't what I bought this for in the first place.
So Far So Good April 26, 2010 Joseph R. Gibree Jr. 2 out of 3 found this review helpful
We have used the liquid product in the past and there are a lot of drawbacks. So far so good this product has kept the deer at bay and away from blooming plants. Highly recommend it.
COYOTE PURINE June 20, 2010 Bartok Kinski (Prague) While I lived in Spain, I worked on a ranch that had many Prarie dogs. I don't mind them but the owner had a bunch of lazy cow stock so he had me try to get rid of them. I tried traps and safe baits, then I relocated them or shipped them off to relatives who wanted to adopt them.
COYOTE URINE works sometimes if you spray it around the hole but some clever Prarie dogs never see the COYOTE after months so they know they've been had and stay.
This Repellent comes in Granules, so you can just toss them around a garden. It's costly. If you know your wildlife, it's cheaper to use donor Coyotes to provide you with their COYOTE URINE.
Deer Repellant August 8, 2010 John L. Ratcliffe (Wolfeboro, NH) Hard to be sure, could be coincidence, but no animal feeding since we started using this product, use it about every 3-4 weeks, not pleasant smell when you shake it out, but I guess that is what I was buying!
